Tamil Nadu Assembly urges Centre to use official OBC names in 2027 Census

The Tamil Nadu Assembly has passed a resolution urging the Centre to incorporate official names of Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Denotified Communities in the 2027 Census. The resolution seeks to have these official lists integrated into the census portal, allowing respondents to select their caste from a pre-defined list rather than enter names manually.
The resolution also requests that caste data collection for these communities be conducted using the same methodology applied to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. The move aims to ensure standardization and accuracy in caste-based demographic data collection during the upcoming census enumeration.
