Trinamool factions divided over ECI's name and symbol freeze directive

The Election Commission of India has directed both factions of the Trinamool Congress to halt use of the party's name and symbol pending resolution of their dispute. The Ritabrata Banerjee faction has welcomed the directive, while the Mamata Banerjee faction has criticized it as contrary to law.

Both groups have submitted alternative names and symbols to the ECI as required. The freeze follows the party's internal split, with competing claims to represent the authentic Trinamool Congress.
