Trump welcomes Modi's efforts against illegal opium cultivation

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian government's efforts to combat illegal opium cultivation and strengthen supply chain reliability. In an official statement, Trump said he welcomes these initiatives and expressed hope for continued cooperation through the US-India Drug Policy Framework.
The United States has included India on its list of major drug transit and producer countries, alongside Pakistan and China. In total, 23 countries feature on this list, including Afghanistan, Bolivia, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, and others identified as significant narcotics sources or transit points.
US officials clarified that inclusion on this list does not automatically imply punitive measures, though it subjects countries to scrutiny regarding drug-related policies and enforcement efforts.
