Modi urges Global South to shape world rules, pushes UN Security Council reforms at Brics summit

Prime Minister Modi opened the Brics summit with a call for urgent reforms to the United Nations Security Council. He stressed the need to transform global governance from a system of privilege to one of partnership, empowering developing nations as active shapers of international rules.
Modi proposed that Brics draft ten proposals for more inclusive global governance and multilateralism. He also called for establishing a Seafarers Emergency Support Network to support maritime workers. The overarching theme of the summit is to position the Global South as rule-shapers rather than rule-takers in the international order.
