US Court Upholds $101 Million Award to Deutsche Telekom in Devas-Antrix Dispute

A United States court has upheld a $101 million arbitration award in favour of Deutsche Telekom arising from the collapse of the Devas-Antrix satellite project. The decision relates to the long-standing commercial dispute over the failed partnership between the Indian space agency ISRO's commercial arm Antrix and Bangalore-based Devas Multimedia, which involved German telecom giant Deutsche Telekom.
The Devas-Antrix contract, signed in 2005, was terminated by India in 2011 after concerns about national security and the project's viability. The cancellation triggered international arbitration proceedings, with multiple claimants seeking compensation for losses incurred.
This latest court endorsement of the arbitration award adds to India's growing legal exposure in the matter. The ruling reinforces earlier decisions against India in the dispute and underscores the financial implications of the failed satellite venture for the government.
