Ex-US Official Recalls American Shock Over India's 2019 ASAT Test
A former US official has recalled America's reaction to India's 2019 anti-satellite (ASAT) missile test, describing shock within the US intelligence community. The official noted that America's National Reconnaissance Office had moved quickly to evaluate the debris generated by the test.
India conducted Operation Shakti in March 2019, successfully destroying a defunct satellite in low earth orbit. The test demonstrated India's space defence capabilities but raised international concerns about orbital debris.
