VHP claims 254 Hindus killed in attacks this year, seeks fast-track trials

The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) claimed on Saturday that 254 Hindus have been killed by "jihadis" across the country in the first eight months of 2026, calling for fast-track trials and enhanced surveillance measures. At a press conference in New Delhi, VHP joint general secretary Surendra Jain released a 26-page document compiled from media reports of killings between January and August 31, providing dates, places, victim and accused names, and links to media reports for each case.
The VHP demanded that cases involving alleged religiously motivated attacks on Hindus be sent to fast-track courts with swift and stringent punishment for those convicted. The organization also called for tighter regulation of madrasas and installation of high-resolution surveillance cameras at mosques and madrasas in "sensitive areas." Additionally, the VHP demanded that minors accused of murder and serious offences allegedly motivated by religious hatred be tried as adults, alleging that minors were being used to commit violence expecting lighter punishment.
Jain stated that Hindus were principal targets and urged those living in sensitive areas to "remain vigilant and prepared for self-defence." He noted that the list covered only media-reported cases and claimed several other incidents had not received media coverage. The VHP asserted that the scale of killings should concern all "patriotic and nationalist Bharatiyas," citing the need for action despite efforts by "Ram-bhakt" governments over the past decade.
