VHP's call to bar Muslims from Navaratri draws criticism from media outlets

The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has called for barring Muslims from Hindu religious celebrations, including Navaratri events. This directive has drawn criticism from media commentators and journalists.
Journalists Shubhangi Khapre and Girish Kuber discussed the issue in an Indian Express interview on September 22, questioning the VHP's exclusion policy. Khapre noted that Navaratri has evolved into a commercialised event with professional performances, arguing that exclusion is unjustified when the celebrations extend beyond home worship.
The controversy reflects broader debates over religious observance, cultural identity and inclusion in festival celebrations across Maharashtra, Gujarat and other states.
