Vijay accuses DMK of covering up POCSO case against Veeramani, questions AIADMK silence

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Friday accused the DMK of covering up a POCSO Act case against Gem Granites owner R. Veeramani, despite the case being registered when the DMK was in power. Speaking at a campaign meeting in Madurantanakam for the Assembly byelection, Vijay alleged that the accused had been harming young girls for years and that the case was subsequently concealed.
Vijay called on DMK president and former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to "reveal what deal had taken place behind the scenes" regarding the case. He criticized the AIADMK for maintaining silence on the issue, questioning whether the opposition party had an "understanding" with the DMK on this matter. Vijay emphasized that the victims were children and questioned what both the DMK and AIADMK had been doing if they could not speak about the children's suffering. He noted that the accused have now been arrested.
The remarks were made during Vijay's campaign for the TVK-led Secular Social Justice Victory Alliance's nominee Maragatham Kumaravel at the Madurantanakam byelection, which is reserved for Scheduled Castes.
