“We Must Strengthen Opposition Unity”: Kharge Launches Fresh Attack On Centre At INDIA Bloc Meeting

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday called for greater coordination among opposition parties, asserting that the INDIA alliance must become stronger to take on what he described as the political, economic and social challenges facing the country.
Addressing leaders gathered for the INDIA bloc meeting in New Delhi, Kharge said, “We must strengthen that same spirit even further and move forward, so that we can confront the many political, economic, social, and foreign policy challenges facing the country.”
The Congress chief referred to recent cooperation among opposition parties in Parliament and said the alliance should build on that momentum to present a stronger collective voice on national issues.
Targeting the BJP-led government, Kharge alleged that democratic institutions were under pressure and claimed that constitutional values were being weakened. He said, “The assault on the Constitution continues unabated,” while also accusing investigative agencies of being used to target political opponents.
Kharge further raised concerns over the electoral roll revision process, alleging that the exercise could impact the voting rights of a large number of citizens. According to him, safeguarding democratic participation should remain a priority for all opposition parties.
On the economy, the Congress leader argued that the investment climate was not generating sufficient employment opportunities. He also highlighted the difficulties being faced by small and medium enterprises, saying the sector required greater support to boost growth and job creation.
Expressing concern over education and recruitment processes, Kharge said, “Due to the complete mismanagement of the examination system, the hopes and aspirations of our lakhs of youth are being betrayed.” He added that young people deserved a transparent and reliable system that rewarded merit.
The Congress president also criticised the government's handling of social and foreign policy issues, claiming that traditional principles associated with India's diplomatic approach were not being adequately upheld.
Calling on opposition parties to remain united despite political differences, Kharge stressed that cooperation among alliance partners would be crucial in the coming years. He said the INDIA bloc should focus on issues affecting ordinary citizens and work together to provide a credible alternative political vision.
