West Bengal residents confront foreign nationals over alleged conversion activities

Cases of illegal religious conversion have drawn attention in parts of West Bengal. A recent incident in Hingalganj, North 24 Parganas, saw residents confront an Argentine national over alleged conversion activities. According to reports, the foreign national had lived in the area for several months, learnt Bengali, and established links with house churches.
Residents accused him of persuading local people to convert to Christianity. Police subsequently questioned three people, including two foreign nationals, after receiving information about an alleged conversion-related gathering in Sandelerbil village. Villagers alleged that people from multiple countries had gathered at a house and attempted to convince tribal residents and others to change their religion.
The matter has sparked local controversy, with residents demanding clarity on whether the foreign nationals possessed required permissions for their work in the region.
