Women's Reservation, Delimitation, FCRA Bills in Limbo as Monsoon Session Ends

The monsoon session concludes in four days, leaving the fate of three significant bills uncertain. The Women's Reservation Bill, Delimitation Bill, and Foreign Contribution Regulation Amendment (FCRA) Bill 2026 were not on the Lok Sabha agenda as of Monday, 10 August, despite government efforts.
While some opposition parties have softened their stance on the women's quota and delimitation bills, Congress and most allied parties continue strong opposition to all three measures. The constitutional amendment for 33% women's reservation from 2029 and increased Lok Sabha seats failed to secure two-thirds majority in April.
Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal accused the FCRA amendment of targeting minorities and NGOs, declaring the opposition will block its passage. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has attempted to secure opposition support, with limited success.
