Yogendra Yadav distinguishes regime change from electoral transition

Activist Yogendra Yadav responded to advocate Prashant Bhushan's recent remarks on regime change, drawing a distinction between electoral transition and extra-constitutional upheaval. Yadav stated that if regime change means transfer of power through elections, it is entirely legitimate and the purpose of democracy. However, if it means street-based upheaval, he said that is not India's model and clarified that Bhushan did not advocate such action.
Yadav emphasized that it is the Election Commission and Supreme Court's responsibility to ensure that any change occurs through fair elections. He called for transparency in the electoral process, demanding disclosure of how many foreign nationals were found in voter lists during recent deletions.
The Election Commission on Thursday directed a special summary revision of voter rolls in 17 states and union territories. Yadav questioned the need for this revision, suggesting it addresses errors in the Commission's earlier mass deletions of names. He implied the move aims to restore voter confidence after crores of names were reportedly removed.
