YSRCP MP Seeks Probe into Attack on Party Floor Leader Midhun Reddy
YSRCP's Tirupati MP Maddila Gurumoorthy has sought intervention from national institutions over an alleged attempt on the life of the party's Floor Leader in Lok Sabha, P.V. Midhun Reddy, which occurred at Punganur on Friday, the first day of nominations for local body elections.
Gurumoorthy submitted representations to President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Chief Justice of India, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, the Chief Election Commissioner, the Andhra Pradesh Governor, the State Election Commissioner, and the National Human Rights Commission chairperson. In his submissions, he called for an impartial investigation into the incident, preservation of CCTV footage and other evidence, and a thorough examination of alleged security lapses. He also requested adequate protection for Midhun Reddy, his security personnel, and candidates participating in the local body elections.
Gurumoorthy referenced an Andhra Pradesh High Court order dated October 15, 2026, concerning safe filing of nominations and protection for candidates facing threats. He urged the Lok Sabha Speaker to consider referring the matter to the Committee of Privileges, and appealed to authorities to ensure accountability, protect candidates from intimidation, and uphold their right to participate freely in the electoral process.
