Andhra Pradesh faces severe rainfall deficit as isolated downpours expected

Andhra Pradesh is experiencing a severe rainfall deficit this October, with the state recording only 18.1 millimetres of precipitation against the normal average of 86.8 millimetres between October 1 and 16, according to India Meteorological Department data.
The 79 per cent shortfall in rainfall threatens agricultural activities and water availability in the state during a critical period. The IMD has forecast isolated heavy rain in parts of Andhra Pradesh in the coming days, though localised downpours are unlikely to compensate for the month-long deficit.
The below-normal monsoon conditions have raised concerns among farmers and water resource managers as the state approaches the end of the northeast monsoon season.
