Andhra Pradesh braces for rain after severe monsoon deficit

Andhra Pradesh is experiencing a severe monsoon shortfall, with the state recording 59% less rain than normal this year. Every district in the state is affected by the deficit, and groundwater tables have dropped by three metres over the past year, intensifying water stress across the region.
The India Meteorological Department has forecast relief, expecting a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal to bring showers from September 12 to 15. The anticipated rainfall is hoped to ease the drought-like conditions and provide some reprieve to agriculture and water resources in the state.
