BCCI Eyes Earlier IPL Window From March 10 To Avoid Peak Summer Heat

The Board of Control for Cricket in India is considering shifting the Indian Premier League to an earlier window, aiming for a March 10 to May 15 schedule starting next year. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said the move is intended to protect player welfare and fan comfort amid rising temperatures and pre-monsoon concerns during the latter half of May.
Saikia noted that the IPL typically begins in late March and concludes by end-May. The proposed two-week advance would help avoid both extreme heat and adverse weather conditions that affect the quality of play and spectator experience.
However, the BCCI clarified that the tournament will retain its current 74-match format due to international calendar constraints, ruling out any expansion to 94 matches in the foreseeable future.
