Jayawardene and Mumbai Indians part ways after IPL 2026 season

Mumbai Indians and Mahela Jayawardene have mutually agreed to end their association after the franchise's disappointing IPL 2026 campaign, during which the team won just four matches.
Jayawardene's tenure with MI saw significant success, guiding the team to three IPL titles in 2017, 2019 and 2020. Under his leadership, the franchise established itself as one of the competition's most consistent performers.
The Mumbai Indians have already begun the process of identifying potential successors, with interviews scheduled for next week. Nita Ambani, the team's owner, expressed gratitude to Jayawardene for his leadership, commitment and contributions to the franchise's achievements during his time with the organization.
