Brics rejects EU carbon border tax as protectionist measure

Brics countries have issued a declaration rejecting the European Union's carbon border adjustment mechanism, characterising it as a protectionist barrier for emerging economies.
The grouping called for a just and equitable energy transition that does not disadvantage developing nations. The rejection reflects Brics members' concern that such unilateral measures by developed economies could hamper growth in emerging markets while shifting environmental costs unfairly.
