CAG audit finds 89% of railway stations lack basic amenities

The Comptroller and Auditor General has identified critical shortfalls in basic infrastructure across India's railway network. Of 512 stations audited, 458 were found lacking one or more essential amenities.
The missing facilities include fans, water coolers, drinking water taps, urinals, seating arrangements, platform shelters, latrines and clocks. The audit highlights persistent gaps in passenger comfort and sanitation standards at these stations.
The findings underscore ongoing challenges in maintaining minimum service standards across the railways' extensive network.
