Centre examining proposal to tweak mining rules for Meghalaya: CM

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma informed the State Assembly that the Union Coal Ministry is examining a proposal to modify mining rules to suit the state's distinctive geological and operational conditions.
Sangma stated that the Coal Ministry has acknowledged Meghalaya's unique mining environment and the necessity for a customised regulatory approach. The state has long sought flexibility in national mining policies to address its specific challenges and resource extraction requirements.
The development suggests ongoing dialogue between the state government and the centre on tailoring mining regulations to regional contexts while maintaining national standards.
