Meghalaya's Lakadong turmeric seeks global recognition as premium brand

Lakadong turmeric, a high-curcumin variety grown in Meghalaya's Jaintia Hills, has transitioned from an obscure regional crop to a geographically-indicated premium product. The turmeric has been showcased before world leaders at G7 forums, marking a significant step in its global branding effort.
The GI (Geographical Indication) tag recognises the turmeric's distinct quality and origin, positioning it as a premium offering in international markets. This recognition aims to help local farmers and boost Meghalaya's agricultural exports while establishing Lakadong as a distinctive Indian brand on the global stage.
