India's EV charging infrastructure falls short of 2030 targets
India is projected to need 1.25 million electric vehicle charging stations by 2030, yet current public charging infrastructure remains sparse. Existing chargers are concentrated in just ten states, creating uneven coverage across the country.
Many public chargers offer slower charging speeds, which may prove problematic for long-distance travel. While home charging is viable for those with private parking, operators face challenges in smaller urban areas due to low usage rates that discourage investment in new installations.
The gap between current capacity and future demand underscores the need for expanded infrastructure planning and investment to support India's electric vehicle adoption goals.
