Study finds only 28% of climate-resilient reefs under protection

A study by the Wildlife Conservation Society and Macquarie University has identified climate-resilient coral reefs across the world. The research reveals a significant protection gap: only 28% of these resilient reefs currently fall within protected or conserved areas.
The findings underscore the urgent need for enhanced conservation measures. Climate-resilient reefs, which are better equipped to withstand warming oceans and environmental stress, require stronger legal safeguards to ensure their survival and ecological value.
