BRICS Agrees On Joint Declaration Ahead Of New Delhi Summit

BRICS nations have reached consensus on a joint declaration ahead of their leaders' summit in New Delhi on Saturday, September 12. The agreed text is expected to condemn unilateral war by any nation without naming specific countries, according to sources. BRICS leaders are scheduled to formally approve the document at the summit.
Reaching agreement marks a significant achievement for the bloc, as tensions between Iran and the United Arab Emirates over the Gulf conflict had threatened to derail consensus. Foreign policy experts had flagged the Middle East crisis as a key test for BRICS unity. The grouping's May meeting of foreign ministers in New Delhi had failed to produce a joint statement due to the same Iran-UAE divide.
The consensus demonstrates member nations' commitment to presenting unified messaging on the global stage despite differing geopolitical interests. Beyond immediate tensions, BRICS is pursuing greater influence over international institutions including the World Bank, IMF and WTO, seeking reforms of global governance structures.
