Without chip self-reliance, India risks failure in future conflicts: DRDO

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) units have flagged concerns over India's dependence on imported semiconductors, cautioning that the absence of self-reliance in chip manufacturing could prove detrimental during future conflicts.
The defence research establishment has emphasised that semiconductor technology is critical to modern military systems and weapons platforms. Without indigenous production capacity, India may face supply chain vulnerabilities that could undermine operational readiness and strategic autonomy.
The warning underscores the broader push within India's defence and policy establishment to build domestic capabilities in advanced electronics and chip manufacturing. This aligns with national initiatives aimed at reducing reliance on foreign suppliers for critical defence components and technology.
