E-way bill generation surges to FY27 high as festive season boosts goods movement

E-way bill generation reached its highest level in fiscal year 2027 during September, driven by increased goods movement ahead of the festive season. The number of bills generated rose 7.2 per cent year-on-year to reach 141.53 million, signalling stronger economic activity in the logistics and supply chain sectors.
Interstate shipments showed even faster growth, increasing 8.2 per cent compared to the same period last year. This indicates robust inter-state trade movement as businesses prepare inventory for upcoming consumer demand during the festive months.
E-way bill data is considered a key indicator of economic activity and goods movement across the country. The uptick reflects growing commercial confidence and seasonal demand patterns as retailers and distributors stock up ahead of peak shopping seasons.
