Early warning systems must account for non-rainfall triggers, says climate scientist

Climate scientist Tapio Schneider has emphasized the need for early warning systems to extend beyond rainfall-based alerts to encompass other natural disaster triggers. Current systems largely focus on precipitation as the primary indicator for issuing warnings, which may miss critical environmental factors that contribute to disasters.
Schneider's remarks highlight a gap in existing disaster management infrastructure, particularly in regions vulnerable to multiple types of climate-related hazards. Broadening alert mechanisms to include temperature fluctuations, soil conditions, and other meteorological variables could improve disaster preparedness and response effectiveness.
