El Niño drives rare 'Kasai Pitta' bird sightings in Rayalaseema

El Niño weather patterns have triggered sightings of the long-tailed shrike, locally known as 'Kasai Pitta', in the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh. The bird has been observed along the Penna River belt and the fringes of the Erramala and Palakonda ranges in Nandyal and Kadapa districts.
The increased sightings are linked to changing climatic conditions brought about by El Niño, which affects rainfall and vegetation patterns in the scrublands. This rare occurrence has drawn the attention of birdwatchers and ornithologists in the region.
