Gaganyaan Mission Advances; India Eyes First Space Station Module Launch by 2028

Preparations for India's first human spaceflight mission, Gaganyaan, are progressing steadily at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) in Thiruvananthapuram. Work is underway on the crew module, vehicle design and safety systems, with missions scheduled during 2027 and 2028.
Alongside Gaganyaan, ISRO is developing India's first space station, the Bhartiya Antariksha Station (BAS), with the first module planned for launch in 2028 and full operability targeted by 2035. The five-module station will support long-duration human missions and scientific research in Low Earth Orbit.
These initiatives reflect India's push toward space self-reliance and its broader Space Vision 2047, including plans to send an Indian astronaut to the Moon by 2040.
