Government proposes stricter controls on prescription-drug advertising by pharmacies and wholesalers

The government has proposed tighter regulations on advertising of prescription-only medicines by pharmacies and wholesalers. The draft amendment is designed to discourage unauthorised promotion and reduce instances of inappropriate self-medication among the public.
Under the proposed rules, pharmacies and wholesale distributors would face enhanced restrictions on how they market prescription drugs. The move aims to ensure that such medications remain accessible only through proper medical channels and professional guidance.
Stakeholders, including industry bodies and healthcare professionals, have been given 30 days to submit their responses and feedback on the draft amendment. The government is likely to incorporate suggestions before finalising the regulation.
