Government Notifies ₹1.27 Lakh Crore Semicon 2.0 Scheme to Boost India's Chip Manufacturing

The government has formally notified the Semicon 2.0 scheme with an outlay of ₹1.27 lakh crore to accelerate India's semiconductor design and manufacturing ecosystem. The programme spans six segments across the semiconductor value chain, including chip design, capital equipment manufacturing, fabrication units, and assembly, packaging and testing activities.
The scheme aims to create a resilient, sovereign semiconductor ecosystem by supporting domestic development of semiconductor intellectual property cores, chips, system-on-chips and modules for electronic products. It will identify specific technologies based on national importance and strategic priorities for India's critical infrastructure.
Semicon 2.0 will also develop underlying technology building blocks including standardised intellectual property covering computing, memory, radio frequency, power, networking and sensors. By supporting these capabilities alongside fabrication, packaging and testing infrastructure, the government intends to build a comprehensive domestic semiconductor value chain.
