IIHR develops practices to cut India's fruit and vegetable imports

The Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR) is developing improved cultivation practices for 20-25 crops to strengthen India's domestic production of fruits and vegetables and curb reliance on imports.
The institute has created a package of practices designed to enable large-scale cultivation of these horticultural crops. The initiative aims to enhance productivity and self-sufficiency in the horticulture sector, addressing supply gaps that currently drive import demand.
These research-backed practices are intended to guide farmers and agricultural stakeholders toward higher yields and more sustainable production methods.
