IIT Delhi holds crucial talks with students over deceased student's case

IIT Delhi's administration held a significant meeting on Tuesday with the Director, DDO, DDSP and student protest representatives regarding the death of student Rishikesh Kumar. The meeting focused on compensation, mental health support, accommodation protocols, Dean's resignation, and safety of protesting students.
While the institute committed to advancing certain issues including committee composition changes, health protocols, housing policy and investigation procedures, several core student demands remain unmet. Students had demanded ₹1 crore compensation and the Assistant Dean of Student Welfare's resignation, neither of which the administration accepted.
On the committee formation, the Director agreed to change its composition and asked students to nominate members—including at least two student representatives with at least one woman—by Friday. The administration clarified it would not influence student representatives, though no specific compensation amount was determined during the meeting.
