IIT Delhi Retains Top Rank Among Indian Universities, Reaches 118th in QS World Rankings 2027

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi has retained its position as India's top-ranked university in the QS World University Rankings 2027, achieving 118th place globally. This marks the best-ever ranking attained by an Indian institution in the prestigious index.
India's representation in the rankings has surged significantly, with 52 universities now featured—the fifth-highest globally. Since 2017, Indian institutions in the rankings have grown from 14 to 52, the fastest proportional increase among G20 nations. In the latest rankings, 26 Indian universities improved their positions, while nine maintained their standings and 15 declined.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan credited the results to reforms under the National Education Policy 2020, noting that the 52 ranked universities span 19 states and union territories.
