India welcomes UK's carbon levy decision

India has welcomed the United Kingdom's decision on a carbon levy, according to Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal. The Indian government's position is that companies should not face double taxation on carbon emissions—if a firm has already paid for emissions in its home market, it should not be required to pay again when exporting to another country.
This stance reflects India's broader position on fair trade practices and environmental responsibility, seeking to balance climate action with economic competitiveness.
