India-Bhutan joint effort revives one-horned rhino population at Manas

A two-decade translocation programme has successfully restored the one-horned rhino population at Manas Tiger Reserve from zero to 48 animals. The initiative, marking World Rhino Day efforts, represents a major conservation achievement between India and Bhutan.
However, the growing movement of these herbivores across the international border presents fresh challenges for the joint conservation effort. Wildlife managers are now grappling with how to manage the increasing cross-border mobility of the species while maintaining population stability.
