India's corn output forecast to fall 10% in 2026-27 on weak monsoon rains
The US Department of Agriculture has projected India's corn output to decline 10% to 50 million tonnes in 2026-27, citing weak monsoon rainfall as a key factor. Kharif sowing area for corn has already contracted 4% this season.
Weak rainfall in August and September is expected to further dampen prospects for the rabi and summer crops. The monsoon shortfall poses challenges for farmers and may tighten domestic supply of the commodity.
