India-Pakistan Naval Collision Echoes 2011 Standoff Amid Diplomatic Tension

A frontline Indian Navy vessel conducting routine surveillance in the North Arabian Sea, approximately 220 kilometres east of Oman, was approached at high speed by a Pakistan Navy warship on September 15. The Pakistani vessel maneuvered erratically before grazing past the Indian ship. New Delhi summoned Pakistan's Charge d'Affaires to lodge a formal protest, condemning the maneuver as "unacceptable and unprofessional."
The incident mirrors a June 2011 confrontation between INS Godavari and Pakistan's PNS Babur during anti-piracy operations. That encounter saw PNS Babur brush against INS Godavari's flight deck, shearing its helicopter safety netting and triggering diplomatic tensions between the two nuclear-armed nations.
Both incidents underscore the risks of unplanned naval interactions in shared waters and highlight the fragile nature of maritime protocols between India and Pakistan.
