India Reinforces UN Reform Push, Hosts Global Envoys

New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs hosted a delegation of United Nations Permanent Representatives on a week-long familiarisation visit to India. MEA Secretary (West) Sibi George organised a welcome dinner where he outlined India's perspectives on multilateralism and global governance.
The engagement follows External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar's July launch of India's candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for 2028-29. Jaishankar articulated India's vision for a more representative and effective global architecture, emphasizing a secure, peaceful and equitable world where the Global South's voice carries equal weight.
Jaishankar highlighted India's focus on contemporary peacekeeping challenges, multilateralism reflecting current realities, and leveraging technology for global benefit. The visit underscores India's broader diplomatic push for UN reform ahead of its UNSC bid.
