UAE Officials Call Flydubai Mid-Air Incident 'Terrorist Act', Praise Indian Pilot

A UAE official has described the mid-air incident involving Flydubai flight FZ1073 as a "terrorist act," praising Indian-origin pilot Smit Machchhar for his role in ensuring safe landing. The incident occurred when Machchhar was allegedly attacked by his co-pilot during a Dubai-Tel Aviv flight. Despite sustaining injuries, Machchhar opened the cockpit door, allowing passengers to intervene and restrain the attacker.
Three Israeli passengers reportedly helped subdue the alleged attacker, while two other pilots on board took control of the aircraft. The flight was diverted to Saudi Arabia and landed safely at Tabuk Airport. The UAE has ordered a specialised investigation into the incident, examining circumstances, motives, and possible links to terrorist activity or external direction. Saudi Arabia is expected to conduct initial investigation before handing the accused co-pilot to UAE authorities.
