Irrational Medicine Use Poses Health Risks, Experts Warn at Sri Aurobindo University

Health experts at Sri Aurobindo University in Indore warned that unnecessary and irrational use of medicines can cause serious adverse drug reactions and health complications. The warning came during a special programme organised under National Pharmacovigilance Week, observed from September 17 to 23.
University founder chairman Dr Vinod Bhandari stressed that medicines are beneficial only when used correctly—for the right patient, in the correct dose, manner and duration. He cautioned against self-medication and inappropriate antibiotic use, which can negatively impact treatment outcomes.
Experts urged doctors to prescribe medicines based on clinical evidence, pharmacists to counsel patients properly, and patients to report any unusual symptoms to healthcare professionals. Adverse drug reactions can be reported toll-free on 1800-180-3024 to the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission.
