Israel's Arab parties face hurdles in government formation despite electoral weight
Palestinian Arab citizens of Israel represent roughly one-fifth of the country's electorate, yet their political parties face significant barriers to participation in government formation. After three years marked by wars and political instability, these parties remain marginalised in coalition negotiations despite their substantial voting power.
The exclusion reflects deeper tensions within Israeli politics, where Arab parties have historically been sidelined from power-sharing arrangements. This dynamic persists despite their electoral significance and the potential role they could play in determining which political bloc forms the next government.
