Jairam Ramesh Alleges 'Vote Chori' Cover-Up by Modi and Shah; Amit Shah Fires Back

Congress Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh has launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing them of spreading lies to divert attention from alleged irregularities in the electoral rolls. In a post on X on Thursday, Ramesh said that "Vote Chori" is a proven reality, citing the Election Commission of India's own data to claim that more than 10 crore Indians risk losing their constitutional right to vote.
Ramesh alleged that the ECI altered Form 6, which applies for inclusion in the voter list, to create barriers for new voters, and that Form 7, used for deletions, has been widely misused for targeted removals. He also accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of centralising control of the electoral roll through the ECINET platform, overriding legal safeguards. Ramesh claimed there is widespread anger across the country and that protests continue despite repression.
Amit Shah responded with a counterattack, asserting that the Congress would not be able to win elections even by 2030 because of what he called its negative politics. He said Rahul Gandhi was frustrated by a string of BJP victories in states under Modi's leadership, and that the vote-theft allegations were aimed at protecting infiltrators.
The exchange underscores the escalating political confrontation over electoral roll management ahead of upcoming polls, with both sides trading charges over the credibility of the voting process.
