Bihar BPSC aspirants clash with police during teacher exam protest in Patna

Thousands of Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) teacher recruitment exam aspirants clashed with police in Patna on Tuesday, hurling stones and confronting water cannons and lathi-charges as they attempted to march towards the chief minister's residence. The protesters, mostly students aspiring for teaching positions, demanded that written exams be held in a single stage instead of preliminary and main stages. Some also called for cancellation of earlier competitive exams, citing irregularities.
The procession began at Gandhi Maidan and covered nearly 5 km with tight security in place. Police deployed water cannons at the starting point, but protesters persisted and broke past barricades. Left-wing activists from organisations including SFI and DYFI participated in the march. Senior police officials said they urged the crowd to remain peaceful and offered to send a delegation to authorities, citing tension as the reason for using water cannons.
