Karnataka Assembly Row Over Vande Mataram: Official Rendition Stops After Two Stanzas

A political controversy erupted in the Karnataka Assembly after the official singing of Vande Mataram concluded after just two stanzas. BJP legislators then continued by singing the remaining stanzas within the House.
The incident follows a Karnataka government directive limiting Vande Mataram to the first two stanzas at general government functions, while permitting all six stanzas at events attended by the President, Vice-President, Prime Minister or Governor. The directive is currently being challenged before the Karnataka High Court.
The episode has reignited debate over national symbols, political tradition, religious sensitivities and the interpretation of respect for national pride.
