Karnataka Declares 23 More Taluks Drought-Hit, Total Rises to 124

The Karnataka government on Thursday declared 23 more taluks drought-affected, bringing the total to 124 as dry conditions persist across the state. The Revenue Department issued the order following ground verification and assessment by the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC). Of the newly notified taluks, 21 have been classified as severely drought-affected and two as moderately drought-affected.
The first phase had declared 101 taluks drought-hit for Kharif 2026 on August 27. Following continued dry conditions, the KSNDMC conducted scientific assessment of remaining taluks. On directions of the Cabinet sub-committee on natural disasters, ground verification was carried out across 214 villages in 24 taluks. The declaration came into effect immediately and remains in force for six months.
