Karnataka seizes 565 tonnes of subsidised rice in alleged diversion racket

Karnataka authorities seized 565 tonnes of subsidised rice from the Public Distribution System (PDS) in connection with an alleged racket diverting Food Corporation of India grain for illegal export.
The rice, valued at ₹1.34 crore, was allegedly being channelled for export to Africa through Chennai port. The seizure was made as part of an investigation into the diversion scheme.
The case highlights concerns over the management and tracking of subsidised foodgrains meant for distribution to poor households. PDS rice is supplied at below-market rates to eligible beneficiaries under India's food security programme.
