Kerala Forest Department to Report on Fence Reinstatement in Idukki

The Kerala Forest Department will submit a report to the Subcollector regarding the reinstatement of fencing in Idukki district. The department had initially removed wire ropes and solar electric fencing from plantations in Panthadikkalam and Choondal to enable free movement of wild elephants through the areas.
However, within days of removal, landowners reinstalled the barriers, raising fresh concerns about wildlife corridor access. The issue reflects the ongoing tension between conservation efforts and agricultural protection in elephant-prone regions of the state.
The Subcollector has sought a detailed report from the Forest Department on the circumstances and the steps being taken to address the recurring barrier installation.
