Ladakh LG announces Rs 15 lakh compensation for kin of 4 killed in September firing

Ladakh's Lieutenant Governor has announced compensation for four protesters killed during violent demonstrations last September. Families of the deceased will receive Rs 15 lakh each, while ex gratia payments of Rs 3 lakh for major injuries and Rs 1 lakh for minor injuries have also been approved.

The protests had erupted over demands for statehood and constitutional safeguards under Schedule Six. Authorities imposed restrictions and arrested over eighty people following the violent clashes. Cases registered against those arrested will be withdrawn, and victims will receive the announced compensation.
